Henry James

Henry James is a private investor and formerly a General Partner of Goldman Sachs and Company. (NYSE: GS)

Mr. James joined Goldman Sachs in 1975 after working in the investment advisory industry and as the corporate development officer for a publicly traded energy company.

Mr. James held numerous different positions during his career at Goldman Sachs, including Co-Head of Capital Markets, Manager of Pension Services, Managing Director of Goldman Sachs Asia Ltd., and President of Goldman Sachs (Japan) Co. in Tokyo. Mr. James became a General Partner in 1986, a Limited Partner in 1994 and a Retired Partner in 1996.

After leaving his last assignment as head of Goldman Sachs’ operations in Japan, Mr. James moved to Seattle where he serves on the boards of ZAMA Networks, the Seattle Opera, the Seattle Symphony, the Henry Gallery, the Seattle Chamber Music Festival and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Mr. James also serves on the Washington State Investment Board which oversees in excess of $50 billion of state employee pension funds. He received his B.B.A. from the University of Oklahoma and his LL.B. from George Washington University. Mr. James resides in Woodway, Washington.
